Robert J. Kohler, Chairman of the Board of Director:

Robert J. Kohler retired from TRW Inc. the end of 1995.  While with TRW he was named Vice-President and General Manager of Avionics and Surveillance Group in 1990.  In April of 1994, he was elected Executive-Vice President.

Mr. Kohler is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Rochester Institute of Technology.  He consults with the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, the National Reconnaissance Office and the Boeing Company.

From 1986 to 1990 Mr. Kohler was the President and CEO of ESL Inc.  From 1985 to 1986 he was Vice-President of Advanced Programs for the Lockheed Missiles and Space Co.

Mr. Kohler spent 18 years with the Central Intelligence Agency.  His last assignment was as Director of the Office of Development and Engineering, Directorate of Science and Technology, in Washington DC.  From 1982 to 1985 he managed the engineering, development and operations of major technical collection systems in support of the National Reconnaissance Office.  Other CIA positions he held include; program group director, facility chief, chief systems engineer and deputy program director.  He joined CIA in 1967.  From 1959 to 1967 Mr. Kohler was manager of the Photo-Science and Technology Department of the Itek Corp. in Lexington, MA.

Mr. Kohler has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Orincon Corp. in San Diego (since gone public) and Recon Optical in Barrington, IL.

DCI William Casey awarded Mr. Kohler the CIA Distinguished Intelligence Medal and the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal in 1985.  He also received the Intelligence Medal of Merit and several other awards as result of work on NRO programs.  Mr. Kohler was elected one of the first Pioneers of the National Reconnaissance Office in 2000.

From 1994 to 1997, Mr. Kohler was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Council for Excellence in Government.  From 1993 to 1996 he served on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Economic Development Corp.  From 1988 to 1990 Mr. Kohler was the Chair of the Santa Clara County Manufacturing Group and also served on the Board of the United Way of Santa Clara County.

Robert J. Kohler earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Photographic Science and Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1959.

 

Jim Cole, Board of Director:

Jim Cole has been a General Partner with Windward Ventures since 1998. He is also a General Partner of Spectra Enterprise Associates since 1987 and formerly a Partner with New Enterprise Associates from 1990 through 1997. He was co-founder (1972) and Executive Vice President of Amplica, Inc, a successful design and manufacturer of gallium arsenide integrated circuits. Amplica went public in 1981 and was sold to COMSAT Corp in 1982. Mr. Cole was personally involved in the formation of several other successful companies including Spectrian, EEsof and Nitres. He currently serves as a director of Giga-Tronics and Vitesse Semiconductor, both are public companies and several private companies including Astute Networks, Troika Networks and Strix Systems. Mr. Cole is also a regent of Mount St Mary’s College.

 

Greg George, Board of Director:

Greg George's strong technology background has played a critical role in the growth of several portfolio companies, including ViewLogic Systems, Inc., which was acquired by Synopsys (NASDAQ: SNPS), Women.com, which subsequently merged with iVillage Inc. (NASDAQ: IVIL),  and Quintar Holdings Corporation, which is now part of Electronics For Imaging, Inc. (NASDAQ: EFII). Today, Mr. George works closely with WorldRes.com, Inc., and SunPower Corporation. 

Before joining Technology Funding in 1986, Mr. George was a management consultant specializing in technical and strategic analysis of venture-backed software companies. He brings an entrepreneurial perspective to Technology Funding as the co-founder of two successful ventures, The Planning Economics Group and Data Resources, Inc.

After 14 years as a General Partner at Technology Funding, Gregory T. George has left the firm to pursue other business opportunities. In his new role as a Consultant, he continues to manage several investments for Technology Funding, working closely with portfolio companies as they progress through the early-stage development cycle. His areas of expertise include software and communications technologies.

Mr. George earned an A.B. from Harvard College.

 

Dick Kramlich, Board of Director:

Dick Kramlich has more than 35 years of venture capital investment experience. Dick focuses on a broad range of technically oriented companies. Present board memberships include Fabric7 Systems, Financial Engines, Force10 Networks, Foveon, Informative, Visual Edge Technologies, Xoom Corporation, KOR Electronics and Zhone Technologies (NASDAQ: ZHNE). Previous board memberships include among others, 3Com Corporation (NASDAQ: COMS), Ascend Communications (acquired by Lucent Technologies), Dallas Semiconductor (acquired by Maxim Integrated Products), Healtheon/WebMD (NASDAQ: HLTH), Immunex (acquired by Amgen), InfoGear (acquired by Cisco Systems), Juniper Networks (NASDAQ: JNPR), Macromedia (NASDAQ: MACR) acquired by Adobe, NetSolve (NASDAQ: NSTL) acquired by Cisco Systems, Decru (acquired by Network Appliance), Silicon Graphics and Semiconductor Manufacturing International (SMIC) (NYSE SMI). He was recently Chairman and President of the National Venture Capital Association. Prior to Joining NEA, Dick was a General Partner of Arthur Rock & Associates and Executive Vice President of Gardner & Preston Moss.

Dick Kramlich earned a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard University Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in History from Northwestern University. He has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Venture Capital Association and the University of California-Hass School of Business. He and his wife Pam are noted collectors of Media Art.

 

Peter Marino, Board of Director:

Peter. Marino is a nationally acclaimed expert on defense and intelligence issues. Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Marino held various senior executive positions including the director of Technical Service at the CIA, president/COO of both Lockheed Electronics Co., Inc. and Fairfield Industries, Inc., Sr. vice president of E-Systems, Inc., and CEO and president of Fire Arms Training Systems.

A published author of several technical papers, Mr. Marino has also served on numerous boards, including current membership on the Defense Science Board, chairman of the National Geo-Spatial Intelligence Agency Advisory Group, and the Defense Science Board's task force on Intelligence for Homeland Defense. Mr. Marino also serves on the board of Qinetiq North America. He received a BS in Physics from Rollins College and a MS in Acoustics from Pennsylvania State University.

 

Roger F. Roberts, Ph.D., Board of Director:

Roger Roberts has over 20 years of experience in leading strategic campaigns within Aerospace. His passion for winning and leadership of people has inspired teams to achieve extremely challenging goals. Combining this energy with a strong technical background, business experience, and domain knowledge has produced significant results and lead to recognition as one of the top industry strategists.

Roger has developed strategic market and business strategies, new business processes, created new lines of business, and lead very challenging multi-billion program capture campaigns. He has lead large teams of people in advanced program development and in multi-billion dollar operations. As President of RF Roberts Consulting Inc, he offers a range of enterprise strategy and program capture expertise.

Roger is currently a member of the Sun Federal Board of Directors, the KOR electronics Board of Directors, and the Board of Advisors for FGM. He has a Bachelor and Masters degree in Physics and a PhD in engineering from the University of California, Irvine.

Kevin Carnino, President/CEO:

Kevin Carnino is a co-founder of KOR Electronics, Inc. which was established in 1986. Assigned as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 2000, KOR Electronics has experienced accelerated growth within its Defense markets and has implemented a strategic growth plan to expand the company into the Intelligence community.

Mr. Carnino began his career with Hughes Aircraft Company in 1980. At Hughes, he served as a radar systems engineer and lead engineer for the automation of AWG-9 RF test stations. Mr. Carnino left Hughes Aircraft to join Design Engineering Laboratories (DEL) and become the lead systems engineer for the development of the first Digital RF Memory (DRFM) based Radar Environment Simulator (RES). Shortly thereafter, he co-founded KOR Electronics and established the successful DRFM based Radar Environment and Electronics Countermeasures simulator product lines.

Mr. Carnino earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (BSEE) from Oklahoma State University, completed multiple advanced radar continuing education courses at Hughes Aircraft Company, and in 1994 completed the Executive Management Program at UCLA. Mr. Carnino is a member of the: California State University, Fullerton’s College of Engineering and Computer Science Dean’s Advisory Board; Association of Old Crows; and AeA Industry Association.

 

Tom O’Hara, Chief Financial Officer, CFO:

Thomas O’Hara joined KOR Electronics as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President Finance in September 2005. Tom brings to KOR more than 31 years of diverse finance experience, after most recently serving as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President Finance, Administration and Human Resources for ORINCON Corporation International, which was acquired by Lockheed Martin in June 2003. While at Orincon, Tom acquired Sygenex, Inc, in September 2000.

During the period of 1993 through 1998, Tom was Chief Financial Officer, Vice President Finance, Administration and Human Resources for Neocrin Company, a venture backed company. While at Neocrin, Tom participated in raising in excess of $42 million from various venture capitalists and acquired Cytotherapeutics, Inc. in 1993.

In 1984, Tom joined Darox Corporation as Chief Financial Officer. Darox was the result of acquiring and merging Intelligent Images, Inc. with and into R2 Corporation in September 1987, as well as creating and structuring ViDisc, Inc., into a wholly owned subsidiary of Darox for the production of interactive videodiscs. At Darox, Tom completed an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in April 1985; acquired Intelligent Images in September 1987; acquired the assets and business of NeuroScience, Inc. in January 1989; and participated in raising millions of dollars in the form private offerings, promissory notes, and debt restructuring.

Tom began his career in 1973 with Borg Warner Acceptance Corporation as a Staff Accountant. In 1974, O’Hara was recruited by AM International, Inc. where he held various Managerial and Supervisory positions.

Tom joined Playboy Enterprises, Inc in 1980. At Playboy Tom was Controller of the largest division of Playboy Enterprises, Inc., with revenues in excess of $150 million and assisted in purchasing Games Magazine and selling Oui Magazine..

Tom’s career has included mergers and acquisitions (both on the buy and sell side), IPO and public company experience, as well as sitting on the Board of Directors for several companies.

Tom earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance from Northern Illinois University; and an MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Management.

 

Chris Lewis, Chief Technology Officer, CTO:

Chris Lewis, a co-founder KOR Electronics, Inc. in 1986, is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and has an extensive background in the design of high-speed multi-bit A/D and D/A modules essential to KOR Electronics’ Digital RF Memory (DRFM) product line and advanced applications. Since the inception of KOR Electronics he has been continuously involved in the development of new technology advancements in KOR Electronics’ DRFMs and DRFM based application systems. As the VP program management, he was responsible for the profitability, management, and customer interface of all KOR Electronics contracts. As the head of engineering, he had been responsible for all engineering activities including expansion of engineering staff.

Prior to co-founding KOR Electronics, in 1982, Mr. Lewis was a member of the Technical Staff at the Transmitter Department of Hughes Ground Systems Division. His responsibilities included the support and improvement programs for several Electronic Warfare products, including the transmitter for the AN/SLQ-17 (V3). This system was the primary EW system for all of the US Navy’s aircraft carriers.

In 1983, Mr. Lewis was the Lead Systems Engineer for DRFMs and EW systems at Design Engineering Laboratories (DEL). He was responsible for the design, fabrication, integration and test of some of the most sophisticated Digital RF Memories being built. This included units for the Test and Evaluation of state-of-the-art missile guidance and air defense radar systems.

Chris Lewis earned a bachelors degree in electrical engineering (BSEE) from Washington State University and a masters degree in electrical engineering (MSEE) from the University of Southern California. He is a graduate of the UCLA Executive Program in Management. Mr. Lewis was a speaker at the 2005 Association of Old Crows International Symposium on “Advanced Simulation Responsive to Complex Targets and Clutter.”

 

Rich Beeber, VP Advanced Development:

Rich Beeber joined KOR Electronics in 2007 as Vice President, Advanced Development. He has both tactical and strategic responsibility for the growth of the company. In this role, his responsibilities include strategic planning, acquisitions, partnerships and alliances, and new business development.

Mr. Beeber brings over 30 years of relevant experience to KOR. Spanning thirty years he held various technical and business roles as he began his career at Raytheon and later Hughes Aircraft Company. For the next nine years, Mr. Beeber held progressive management positions with M/A-COM, Inc. in Burlington, MA for the next nine years culminating in the position of  Vice President &  General Manager. He was Director of New Business Development for Alpha Industries for six years and led Alpha’s Millimeterwave based smart weapons programs.

He became Vice President &  General Manager of  California Microwave, Inc.’s digital radio business and later Sr. Vice President, Operations for their consolidated business segments before assisting in the sale of the business to Tadarin, an Israel based corporation. Mr. Beeber joined Signal Technology in 1998 and was Vice President, Sales & Marketing as well as Vice President, Signal Wireless Group. He continued as Vice President, Sales & Marketing following Signal Technologies acquisition by Crane Co. in 2003.

Mr. Beeber earned his BSBA at Pepperdine University and attended the Masters in Business Management program at the University of the Redlands. He attended the Sloan School at MIT and is an active member in various trade associations

 

Pete Reese, VP Applications Engineering:

Pete Reese was promoted to Vice President of Applications Engineering for KOR Electronics in 2007. In this role, Mr. Reese drives the rapid development of applying next generation technologies to fulfill customer requirements in the intelligence and defense sectors.

Mr. Reese brings with him over 25 years of Radar, Electronic Warfare, and Advanced Concept knowledge and expertise.

His early career began at KOR Electronics in the 1980s including engineering and laboratory design roles. Pete ventured to Northrop Grumman in 1996 where he was the Electronic HW Center Manager involved on a variety of large radar and leading edge defense programs.

In 2003, Pete returned to KOR Electronics to assist the executive team leading its rapid growth and expansion in new advanced applications and technologies. Pete Reese has earned repeated recognition and award distinctions by customers and trade associations for his focused dedication and contributions to defense technology.

Mr. Reese received his bachelors in electrical engineering (BSEE) from Stevens Institute of Technology, NJ.

 

Bob Pemberton, Vice President Sales & Marketing:

Bob Pemberton has responsibility for all KOR Electronics Sales and Marketing functions and is the direct supervisor for all defense Sales personnel.

Mr. Pemberton has more than 35 years of experience in the electronics field. After initial training as a Microwave Systems specialist with the U.S. Marines, Mr. Pemberton retired as a Data Systems Chief after more than 22 years of active service.

Mr. Pemberton transitioned his military experience and training directly into the civilian sector and joined Microwave Networks Inc. as the Director of Program Management. His contributions were a determining factor in the acquisition by California Microwave, and as the Director of Operations Support he managed the IT, Purchasing, Quality and Program Management departments. Maintaining his responsibilities through the sale of the company to Tadiran (an Israeli based conglomerate) Mr. Pemberton then joined Crane Aerospace and became the Director of Microwave Sales.

Mr. Pemberton received his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering (BSEE) from Santa Clara University and his masters in business administration (MBA) from National University.

 

Tony Girard, Director of Engineering:

Tony Girard is responsible for directing the efforts of KOR Electronics’ Engineering Group in the design and development of laboratory and airborne DRFM products and RF Target Generator (RFTG) systems.

Mr. Girard is involved with the detailed technical aspects of the entire group to assure that proper processes, techniques and methods are used to produce successful designs. Mr. Girard has successfully led teams that implemented numerous DRFM based complex target generation features set into KOR Electronics’ advanced Target Simulator designs.

Mr. Girard’s over 25 years of technical experience includes development of high speed data acquisition products and development of custom laser-based measurement systems including field testing on military aircraft.

Tony Girard earned his BSETE from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

 

Brett Keating, Director of Program Management:

Brett Keating is responsible for overseeing the management of all programs at KOR Electronics. Mr. Keating coordinates with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and marketing/sales groups to ensure the successful execution of cost, schedule and performance on each program.

Mr. Keating has over 20 years of experience and has successfully designed, integrated, and delivered multiple simulator systems both within the United States and overseas. Mr. Keating has held positions in the radar and sensor simulation industry outside of KOR Electronics as well, including design, technical lead, and program management at Hughes Aircraft (1986 to 1989), and ViaSat, Inc. (1994 to 2002).

Brett Keating earned his BSEE at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
