Applications utilizing Radar Environment Simulators (RES) can be separated into four major categories. These four major categories are Operator Training, Radar Development Aide, Radar Performance Verification, and Production Testing.

Radar development testing with RES results in compressed development schedules, and radar deployment with a higher confidence due to minimal residual software and hardware problems. Finding problems in the lab prior to committing valuable resources to production or releasing software builds saves money throughout the development cycle.
Problem diagnosis with RES instrumentation has the "repeatability" advantage over expensive radar flight test. Flight test is not repeatable, and cannot provide high target and jammer density at an acceptable cost. Stress testing of the radar, evaluating ECCM effectivity, verifying performance, all can be done while reducing the requirements for expensive flight testing. Customer jammers have been integrated into a RES, for hardware in-the-loop radar testing against actual jammer systems, all without having to worry about the security problems involved in free space transmissions.
